Step one:

I will make an appointment with you before the day of cleaning. This appointment will be for both of our benefit. We need to ascertain the fabric type so that we can choose an appropriate cleaning solution/method.

More importantly we need to study your sofa and chairs; we need to point out wear areas that will still show after we have left also we need to discuss the history of any marks or stains on your upholstery along with the likely outcome of cleaning. 

We will arrive on time on the day you book us to come and clean your sofa. We will protect any wood flooring before we start and quickly just go through the survey again with you. This is just to clarify exactly what you want. 

Step three:

So now we are ready to begin the cleaning process, so we remove all of the cushions from the sofa or chair and thoroughly all the fabric including the base.

Top Tip: Ask whoever you book if they do this, a true professional will always vacuum a sofa before introducing the cleaning solution.

Step four:

We test the fabric to make sure there are no issues with our cleaning solution causing bleeding, this is where for example you have a very dark colour next to a very light colour and the dark merges into the light. This is an important step especially when there is some red piping around a light coloured cushion.

Step five:

Application of a suitable cleaning solution, we let this dwell for a while about five to ten minutes.

This next bit is not common but some companies like us do this next step also.

We use a micro fibre hand mitt and work the cleaning solution over the fabric.
This serves two purposes, one it ensures an even spread of the cleaning solution and the other is that it removes a layer of soiling. Already your sofa will be much cleaner and we haven’t even started to rinse it yet.

Step seven:

We then set about setting up the equipment and machinery. Our high powered truck mounted machine sits inside of our van outside of your property. This machine is the ultimate in extraction machines and is far more powerful than the little portable machines that other companies use.

The reason we use such a powerful machine is that we know you want your sofa to be cleaned and dried as soon as possible so that you can enjoy the luxury of your clean fresh soft upholstery.

Step eight:

So just to re-cap, I have vacuumed your sofa thoroughly removing the dry particulate, I have applied our pre-spray and massaged this into the fabric. Whilst doing this we have removed another layer of soil and opened up the fibres of the fabric so we can rinse the remaining soiling out along with all the non-visible microscopic pathogens.

To do this we use a specialist upholstery tool that is connected to our truck mounted powerful extraction machine that sits outside.

The benefit of this is that unlike many companies who use right angled hand tools and soak the padding underneath the fabric our system only wets the fabric which greatly reduces drying times and stops potential problems such as mould, extremely long drying times that can cause odour issues or shrinking.

Step nine:

Once the sofa has been completely rinsed we will go back over the fabric with a micro fibre mitt. This is done to remove any excess moisture that may still be on top of the fabric. This will also re set the pile sometimes we will use a brush after the hand mitt.

Step ten:

If needed we will set up a snail fan that will blow air across the fabric to help it dry quickly. Usually we leave it on until we have finished clearing everything away.

Step eleven:

We will invite you to inspect our work and we will deal with any of your concerns there and then. But sometimes things only appear once fully dried so if after drying you have any worries please contact us again and we will come out and address these issues with you, remember we guarantee our workmanship.

We can if you want apply a protector to the fabric of your sofa, this will give you time to deal with the little accidents and spills that might occur.

We normally agree this at the quotation stage but if you decide it is something that you want added just ask the technician (usually me, well always me) I carry protector on the van and as long as the fabric is still damp I can totally protect your sofa.
